Tornado
On Thursday, Oct. 18, there was an F2 tornado. It rolled two mobile homes off their foundations and killed a 30 year old father of 3. In town it tore up the Municipal Airport, wrecking several small aircraft and tearing the roof and walls off one of the hangars. It did damage to several houses, one roof was torn off and several others were damaged by falling trees and branches. During this time, there was a Volleyball game going on at the Middle School, where one of Colby's employees was and the tornado siren went off twice. People were scrambling for hallways and bathrooms for safety, while others jumped into their trucks and tried to find where the tornado was. Hmm...
Here at the farm our power was out and we were listening out the windows to the sounds of the storm. Colby's Mom and Stepdad were camping in their camper by the river, and drove up to our house because they heard the "freight train" sound coming closer. It was an incredible sound! But thankfully, it stopped before it reached an intensity that would drive us into the well pit behind the house. The next day the kids and I drove out to the airport and got these pictures. Praise God it didn't come any closer than it did; that was still too close for comfort. Oct. 19, 2007.
